When I was growing up, I used to always worry about what other people would think of me. I’m a chronic people pleaser, so I always wanted to make EVERYONE happy, and I wanted everyone to like me. I had this constant need to be accepted…it was exhausting. Sound familiar?
Do you worry about what other people think of you?
If so, you’re not alone.
Too often we worry what our friends, parents, acquaintances, and even complete strangers think about us and our life choices. Worrying about what other people think about you is not only exhausting, it’s a complete waste of your time and energy. Here’s why…
You can’t control what other people think.
Everyone has their own thoughts and opinions, including you. You can’t control anything about anyone. Another person’s thoughts, views, and opinions are theirs and you really can’t do anything about that…so why even try?
Often we exhaust ourselves trying different things, including changing who we are, just so someone will like us. But that’s not being true to yourself and it’s a waste of your time and energy.
Don’t change who you are to try to get someone else to like you or make them happy. Be true to who YOU are. Be yourself.
If you constantly worry about what other people think of you I have good news: Most of the time people aren’t even thinking about you.
That’s right…The funny thing is that you worry about what someone thinks about you, but that person isn’t thinking about you at all. In reality, they’re probably more concerned about what you and other people think of them, and they aren’t even thinking about you.
Unfortunately, no matter how amazing of a person you are, not everyone is going to like you.
It’s a statistically proven fact that only 25% of people you meet will like you right away. I read somewhere that…
“Twenty Five percent of people you meet will never like you; Twenty Five percent of people you meet won’t like you, but could be persuaded to; Twenty Five percent of people you meet will like you but could be persuaded not to; Twenty Five percent of people you meet will like you and always be there.”
So that means 75% of people may or may not like you…and 25% of people will never like you, but that’s okay!
There’s absolutely nothing you can do to change that, so don’t let it bug you. It’s natural for all of us to want to be accepted by everyone, but it’s impossible. So, stop worrying about being accepted by everyone and move on.
So if you’re concerned about what someone thinks about you, just remember you can’t control what someone thinks, and chances are they aren’t even thinking about you…so stop worrying so much!
Most importantly, never change who you are to make someone like you. You can’t make everyone happy and no matter how awesome you are (and I’m sure you are awesome), not everyone is going to like you. Don’t worry about it…It’s a waste of your time and energy.
Remember, you are one of a kind…NEVER change. Be the AMAZING person you are. Be happy. Be YOU.
