My wife and I just had our first son a little over a year ago. It’s amazing how fast time has gone by and how big Sam is getting. Maybe it’s the sleep deprivation, but life now seems like it’s flying by at warp speed. Figuring out the transition into parenthood has been difficult at times, but it’s also been a fun and exciting adventure for us.
A few nights ago Tara and I were talking about being parents and what we enjoy most about parenthood. When she asked me what I enjoy most about being a dad I told her I look forward to teaching him things like how to fish, ride a bike, how to build things, and answer any questions he might have about anything his little mind can think of.
But most importantly, I look forward to showing him that he was born with the amazing ability to make difference in someone else’s life. That he can and make a difference in the world.
As my son’s father, I may be a bit biased towards his capabilities. Even so, I know for a fact that he can make the lives of others better while he is here in this world. I also know for a fact that he can make this world a better place.
The important thing is that my son is not the only one born with the ability to make a difference in the world and in someone else’s life…
YOU were born with this amazing ability as well. In fact, we all were.
Unfortunately, we often get caught up in our own lives and forget we are capable of making a difference in the lives of others. We forget our decisions and actions leave a lasting impression on those around us.
In our society, it’s common to become concerned with only ourselves. We focus on OUR problems, OUR challenges, and OUR struggles. Most of all, we forget that helping others is the most effective way to deal with our own issues.
Sometimes we think we need to do something revolutionary to impact the world, but that’s not necessarily true. Small, kind, and simple actions have a ripple effect, which can impact the world in ways you never could imagine. One small act of compassion and kindness can change the world and change someone’s life. You can make a difference by just trying.
You are much more capable of anything you could possibly imagine. Realize that your life is important and you can make a huge difference in the world just by trying to help others.
And just like my son, you were born with the AMAZING ability to change someone’s life…Don’t ever waste it.
